ABOUT ME
My full name is Marcella Julia Goldring, and I turned 19 March of 2012. I am adopted from Paraguay, a small country in South America and have a twin sister.
Because I was adopted, English is my primary language. Yet, my ethnicity is Hispanic. I was taught Hebrew throughout my elementary and middle school years and then began learning Spanish, my native tongue, during high school. Afterwards, during my freshman year in college, I took two semesters of Arabic.
INTERESTS
I love school (nerd, yes) and am fascinated by a vast amount of subjects. For one, I find the human brain and how people think extremely interesting, as well as how animals think and behave. A job working with or studying animals or an aspect of psychology would be super exciting for me. Also, I have always been interested in other cultures, religions, and lifestyles. I am also gifted at picking up new languages very quickly. A life of traveling, meeting different people, and learning their traditions and language would also suite me well. And finally, the human body amazes me, and I love living a healthy lifestyle. I would love to have the opportunity to become a fitness trainer one day, or anything related.
After my first year of college, I was able to explore these interests, but was unable to choose which I wanted to pursue for a major. I am hoping these 3 years in the IDF will give me more than enough time to think it through. Also, any experience I get in the IDF could help me land a job in one of those three fields.
SKILLS
I have been a dancer all my life. I did ballet and gymnastics growing up. I then switched to figure skating when I was 9. I took lessons and performed with my twin up until I was 14. Then, in high school, I was introduced to Latin dance and joined the well known dance team: Latin American Students United or LASU. I then joined Clave Kazi, a DC based dance group and have experimented with a couple others in Maryland and later, Florida.
I have also been athletic most of my life. I did karate when I was young, and then moved to soccer during middle and high school. I then joined the cross country team senior year of high school. And enrolled in the Army ROTC program during my freshman year of college (one semester).
Although it is not (yet) my passion, I have a unique visual and artistic talent, that I do not want to waste. I was chosen in 6th grade to paint my school as a gift to our biggest donors. In high school, I rose to the top of my art classes and joined the Visual Arts Center (VAC) during junior year (an amazing program). One summer during high school, I interned at the Page group, a graphic design company. Despite all this, I would much rather paint when I am inspired, instead of making it my career.
And now I am off to the IDF for three years, to have an entirely different experience. I have an amazing family and friend group that are supporting my every decision while I am away.
Thanks for reading my story! :)
